To Market, To Market

The Islington market

Early this afternoon, Tanya and I ventured to the local market in Islington, which is about a ten minute walk from our house. The market was amazing- all organic foods at cheaper prices than the grocery store! There were strawberries, raspberries, lettuce, okra (fried okra, anybody?), apples, worcesters, oranges, plums, kale, beans, cheeses (one booth had only goat cheese varieties... I was in heaven), breads, jams, jellies, fish, meat, organic brownies (who knew such a thing existed!!), fresh honey, and much, much more. It was all from local farmers. My favorite booth was the Celtic Bread booth, which was manned by the most adorable Irish father/daughter team. The daughter was clearly wearing one of her dad's plaid shirts (it was chilly), and decided that they should attempt to make chocolate bread for next week. I have to respect an imagination like that.

Tanya and I stocked up on good food and decided that the market would be our new Sunday ritual. We decided that it would also enable us to cook some traditional English foods while we are here. Not that I'll be mashing peas any time soon!
