I have always thought of myself as a "foodie," mostly because I simply love to eat. But living here has shed light on my limited cooking ability. As my flatmates make certified gourmet meals nightly, I struggle to throw together a grilled cheese with camembert, onions, and red pepper. They run in, excitedly exclaiming "I got onion bhaji at the market!" and "Fei made panna cotta!" while I ask for definitions and spellings of these strange-sounding foods.
Food Network, you have failed me. I have faithfully watched you throughout law school (it's perfect background noise for the never-ending task of reading case law). And yet, here I am, embarrassing myself with my incredibly limited food knowledge.
This year, I expect to be educated in the art of food and cooking as much as I am in law. We are all planning a big Thanksgiving dinner (everybody is very excited at the prospect of oven-baked mac and cheese), and have decided to take turns cooking foods from our homes throughout the year. That way, we can learn more about each other and our individual countries and regions. We already have quite the flat dynamic going on. I'll try to post some of these recipes with pictures if y'all want to try them at home!
To everybody getting ready to go home and cook dinner: Bon appétit, mes amis!
