"So, how do you look out for Volde-ahem, corrupt bribes on an international scale? Do you hold those liable who were under an imperio cur-... an agent-principal relationship with a high-up director?"
Today, in my Corporate Social Responsibility class, we had two guest speakers: the Director and Senior Policy Advisor from the Serious Fraud Office. Basically, to corporations they are the "two most feared men" in the UK. They came to speak on the Bribery Act of 2010, but all I could think of was how much they favored Mr. Weasley and Cornelius Fudge (the Minister of Magic) from Harry Potter. Maybe it's all the excitement about the movie coming out Friday.
Here's a fun article for those fellow HP fans: Harry Potter Quidditch World Cup (thanks for posting it, LAHP!)
In my never-ending endeavor to find the perfect mix of all things southern and European, I made sweet tea today to take to my class. The speakers and my fellow students (all 7 of them) straight up stared at my water bottle for the entire 2 hours. Then I realized something: British students all drink hot tea during every class. Every single person (speakers and professors included) had a cup in front of them. And our breaks in the middle of the hour two block? The professor simply suggests that everyone get a fresh tea at the cafe downstairs. I love this place.
You're welcome!
ReplyDeleteI'm guessing that brown bottle in your illustration is your water bottle with tea in it, but for a second I asked myself, "Was Mackie having a beer in class?"
