Around two months ago (sheesh, I'm really behind in blogging!), I took a little trip to visit my good friend, Iona. Iona lives in Aberystwyth, Wales, which is on the western coast. When I found out that two other friends wanted to join in the Welsh fun, we all made a road trip out of it- complete with a "Welsh" music CD (kudos to Kim... or whatever your fake name was!). The music that made the CD went from Tom Jones (who is Welsh) to Adele (because she "probably has gone to Wales before"). This trip made me realize that I now have two favorite travel destinations: a) tiny towns on the coast, and b) sheeping communities. Conveniently, Aberystwyth fits both of these descriptions!
While in Aber, Iona took us to a big rugby tournament where we drank cider with blackcurrant juice. Seagulls flew over our heads as we watched all ages play rugby. Iona also showed us the boardwalk of Aber, which is historical with ancient ruins at its edge. We had lunch at the Pier restaurant while overlooking the water. We also got to see the original Aberystwyth University building (Iona works for the study abroad office... or rather, IS the study abroad office!). On our last day there, Iona's adorable mom took us out to the beach, near where she grew up. It was a windy and wonderful trip and a great introduction to the country I have long heard so much about! Here are some pictures from it:
