Last night, UCL had its annual LLM Christmas party at a "posh" club in Soho. It was what I'd imagine it would be like to attend an extremely fashionable UN conference whilst tripping on acid. Sure, I've never actually done either of those things- attended a UN conference nor tripped on acid, but I can imagine it, right? UCL prides itself on having students from all over the globe- so it was the most international party I believe I have ever attended. Add in crazy techno beats (who says you can't do the robot to techno?), stroke-inducing flashing lights, and trippy surroundings. And voila: you have the UCL holiday party.
While in Ireland, I realized that my personal adage should be "Mackie B.: Inappropriate in every country." But last night I learned that my odd conversation starters are totally acceptable when talking to people from all over the world. It seems like the cultural norms are ignored more often when you have people from all four corners of the world. Yay for sliding under the normalcy radar!
I truly had a blast clubbin' it up with my fellow law kids last night, even though I am much more of a quiet-pub-kind-of-girl. I must say, law students are fun to party with world 'round. They like to have fun and can offer helpful life tips ("The tube is actually the only legal place to drink in public in London, though they will never stop you for an open container on the street"). And, since it's fun to draw on paintbrush, here are a few highlights from last night:

Glad to see you're trying to help ol' Roy out with recruiting.
ReplyDeleteMackie, I love this blog! I laugh out loud every time I read it. Miss you! Sorry we couldn't make it to Cambridge with you. We'll just have to meet up in the states and pretend we're there.
